The Kiki/Bouba effect is a linguistic phenomena that dates back to the 1920s. Research conducted by psychologists finds that, overwhelmingly, when people are presented with nonsense words Kiki and Bouba, they associate the former with visual imagery that is angular and spikey, and the latter with more organic, round forms.
